I'm home in upstate New York.
It wasn't a planned trip, that's for sure. My mother called me Friday afternoon (I was at a bar drinking...hey, it was noon on Good Friday, what else should I have been doing?) to tell me that my dad was back in the hospital. He's been in and out of the hospital for the past 6 weeks and it hasn't been easy dealing with it because he's always been so strong and healthy. Plus, he's my daddy and nothing can ever happen to him. It just can't.
So when I found out on Saturday evening that he was going to have to have emergency surgery early this week, I went to sleep, woke up early, emailed my boss, hopped in my car, and drove 8 hours to be here.
The surgery was successful, and he's going to be fine, but it has been stressful as hell and exhausting (although, I'm sure it's been worse for him). I've been on nurse duty (Nurs Murf wasn't available), and if I do say so myself, I'm damn good at taking care of people. I'll just add that to the list of all the things I'm fabulous at.
BTW... Dad's surgeon was HOT! When he left my Dad's room after talking to us pre-surgery, I turned to my Dad and said, "I'm SO washing my hair tomorrow."
