Your first kiss was a sweet kiss, your second kiss had a twist...

Sunday night I got an email from my sister that said, "They're ba-ack." And then this link.

Ever since then I haven't been able to stop thinking about the New Kids on the Block. I was hard core when it came to the New Kids. You name the merchandise, I had it. All the tapes (dear God), t-shirts, buttons (even the super huge ones), pillow cases (I kissed Jordan every night before bed), etc. I didn't have the watch though, but my friend Becky did and I was beyond jealous. I may have even asked her to leave it to me should "something happen."

When the New Kids on the Block were on TV it was a major event in my house. Dad would have to hook up the VCR so I could tape every minute and watch and re-watch, and re-watch, and re-watch. Seriously. Their Oprah appearance? I've probably seen it a couple hundred times. Even if I missed the first few minutes of the clips, I'd record anyway and then re-watch half clips of the New Kids appearance on some stupid talk show (except their "Funky Christmas" performance on Arsenio...that was SO not stupid). I was what you might call obsessive, or...a loser.

The video tapes are all gone now. My mother threw them out in an attic cleaning fit a few years ago. I think the tapes I am most upset about losing are the 1990 United Cerebral Palsy Telethon coverage tapes. The New Kids co-hosted and performed at the telethon that year. Becky spent the night, and we stayed up for 24 hours and watched (and recorded) the telethon. That's right...I watched (and recorded) all 24 hours of the United Cerebral Palsy telethon. That was also the year I made my first charitable donation.

See? The New Kids had a positive impact on my life.

It's not all 24 hours, but enjoy this taste of the United Cerebral Palsy telethon. (I thought Tommy Page was tres dreamy as well).

Now imagine a scrawny, pimply faced, teenage Trixie in a sleeping bag on her parents' living room floor, drinking coke, eating popcorn, and talking about how one day she is so going to marry Jordan. Yeah...it was as bad as you think it was.

I'm not sure I'm ready for a New Kids comeback.
