Happy Thanksgiving - November 21, 2007
I love Thanksgiving. Really, how can you not love a holiday centered on eating and watching football? In the past, my routine has always been: wake up (hungover), put on sweats, watch Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, lay on couch, start drinking, watch the rest of my family cook, eat, lay on couch some more, watch football, eat, drink some more, take nap, eat again. Awesome, right? Another reason Thanksgiving has always been my favorite time of year is because my birthday is always either right around it, or on it, (this year it's Monday...hint hint) and the fact that I make a HUGE deal about my birthday is no secret.
I even enjoy watching all of the news articles centered on everything to do with Thanksgiving...the travel hell...recipes...etc. So I've been loving the Today Show this week (especially when they cut to Kevin Tibbles live at O'Hare talking about how screwed everyone unfortunate enough to be flying out of that airport is). However, much as I love everything about the Today Show (including Meredith...I had my doubts, but I like her), this article has some issues.
#1) Since when are pigs in a fucking blanket a traditional Thanksgiving appetizer? Or are they? I've never heard of such a thing.
#2) Same goes for Buffalo wings. I've never had wings on Thanksgiving, and I'm from WESTERN NEW YORK!
#3) "Think before you drink...don't waste calories on beverages." I'm sorry...I just had to pick myself up off the floor. They're seriously suggesting not drinking on Thanksgiving? Please. I'll have a bottle of pinot down before noon tomorrow.

Shoot, we drink heavily the night before just so we can get a head start on the drinking on Thanksgiving day. You know what they say, "You can't drink all day unless you start in the morning." And I like to think of 1am as "in the morning." Go Pack.

Pigs in a blanket...aka, glumpkies (sp?) --- beef and rice, wrapped in cabbage. I know they have them in Western NY :)
